Each player is dealt five cards, and the aim of the game is to use them to make the best hand.<\/p>\n<p>During the course of a hand, each player is able to discard cards to improve his or her hand. After the last card has been discarded, the remaining players can then call, raise, or fold.<\/p>\n<p>The first round of betting is usually referred to as the ante. This is a small bet that every player must place before the hand is dealt. If the hand is won, the ante becomes the pot.<\/p>\n<p>Another round of betting occurs after the cards have been discarded. In this round, each player can request to discard a single card, or all of them.<\/p>\n<p>An all-in bet places all of a player&#8217;s chips in the pot. In a draw, each player&#8217;s share of the pot is equally distributed.<\/p>\n<p>A straight flush begins with the highest card. When the hand is a tie, the winner is the player who has the highest unmatched fifth card.<\/p>\n<p>Poker games may be played with as few as four players, or with a large number of players. Usually, two decks of cards are used, with the backs being colored differently. Some variations of the game use a deck of 52 cards.<\/p>\n<p>There are several poker terms that help a beginner understand the game. While there is a wide variety of terminology, a few of the more common terms include:<\/p>\n<p>The ante is a bet that all players must make before the hand is dealt.
