Poker is a game of chance and card playing in which players compete to make the best hand out of a standard 52-card deck. The winning hand is the one that has the highest value.<\/p>\n
The first round of play begins with each player making a bet, called the ante. Ante bets can be small or large, depending on the variant being played.<\/p>\n
Once the ante is placed, each player is dealt 2 cards face-down and 3 cards are dealt face-up (revealed to all players) in the center of the table. These are community cards and help build each player’s 5-card hand.<\/p>\n
Each player is allowed to take turns revealing their cards, and the winner is the player with the best hand. If more than one player has the same 5-card hand, then a showdown takes place, in which all the hands are revealed, and the player with the best hand collects the pot.<\/p>\n
In some variants, the player who is last to bet in a betting interval may “check” (i.e., fold), in which case he forfeits his right to call or raise any further bets in that interval. However, if he checks, he may later raise a bet that was made by someone else in the same betting interval.<\/p>\n
Some variations of Poker require blind bets, in which a player must place a certain amount in the pot before he can make his first bet.
