A casino is a place that offers a variety of gambling games. These include blackjack, roulette, poker, and other card games. It is also a place where people can socialize. Casinos are usually licensed to operate, and the games offered are regulated by law. Some casinos add other amenities like restaurants, free drinks, stage shows and dramatic scenery to attract customers. While a casino can offer many different types of games, the most important feature is that it allows patrons to gamble.
In Casino, Robert De Niro stars as Sam “Ace” Rothstein, who owns the Tangiers hotel in Las Vegas and operates it behind the scenes with mob backing. He’s protected by mob muscle in the form of Nicky Santoro (Joe Pesci). But when Ace discovers that the hotel manager is skimming money off the top, he must confront the reality of his situation and reevaluate his relationship with Ginger McKenna (Sharon Stone), an addicted-to-anything femme fatale opportunist most men would aspire to tame.
Despite being nearly three hours long, Casino never lags or runs out of steam. Thanks to the taut narration and masterful editing, it is a lean, mean thriller throughout its runtime. Its subject is the world of casino gangsters, but this movie transcends that genre. Sharon Stone gives the best performance of her career, and it proves that she is far more than a one-trick pony. It is a true gem and an essential film for anyone who loves movies.
